The "That '70s Custom" Custom figure Contest!

Welcome Groovy Dudes to AFBFORUM's 2nd ever Custom figure Comp.

This is going to be happening in a far out and groovy way, so dust off your paints and brushes and get your creative juices flowing.

Now as the title suggests, we want to see the best (and hopefully worst) in what the comic community had to offer up in terms of characters/costumes from the 1970's.

The Rules

"Oh, I see it's the man harshing on my mellow".

Not at all, brother man! Here are some simple guidelines to keep everybody on the same page.

  1. Customs can be from ANY character/character's costume that debuted in the 1970's in the comic book universe. For Example any character that debuted between Jan 1st 1970 and Dec 31st 1979 or any character that underwent a significant costume change between Jan 1st 1970 and Dec 31st 1979.
  2. Figures ideally would be in a six inch format - think D.C. Universe or Marvel Legends scale. However, characters that co-exist with human counterparts (e.g. Howard the Duck or any robot, sidekick etc) are also eligible. Ideally we would LOVE to see a wide variety of comic book characters represented, so do your homework and surprise us with your ingenuity.
  3. Characters can be selected from any Comic book publication. We really are adopting a "Serve all, Love all attitude".
  4. Any amount of sculpting or "Frankensteining" is allowed and encouraged.

Due Date

Three photos are to be supplied: front, side and rear. A W.I.P. (work in progress) photograph would be cool as well.

Completed Photos with any write-ups or reference pics are to be pm'd to Andy here through AFB No larger than 800x600 please. The due date is April 30th. All pictures will be posted on May 7th in a locked thread for you all to admire. A separate Thread will be started for comments.

We encourage all Members to have a go! This is a challenge for fun and there will be a vote by all members on the best figure, but no prizes are offered - just the prestige of having the most popular figure as voted by your fellow Members.

HUGE thanks to everyone who has contributed to the planning of this, especially NiteOwl for composing the rules, dozy for doing the banner, and for FMS, Stars and our absent friend and member Rod Keith for the use of the pics of their customs - PLUS all the other admins and mods who contributed to the planning discussion.

Please use the link and banner to promote this wherever you are able.

Looking forward to a great comp!

Yeah, are we limited to a specific number of entries? There are so many train wrecks from the 70s, it's hard to choose!

Hi guys, thanks for the interest. At this stage it will be one entry per customiser, if it's successful there could always be a part 2............

It's a trap!

Why yes, bright orange is a perfectly acceptable replacement for medium brown.
