Ok, today we have a real treat!

OR TRICK!!!!!

Resurrection of Monstress was a Japanese toyline released by a company called YELLOW SUBMARINE in the late 1990's that gave us modernized female versions of the "classic" horror monsters. There were originally 3 planned series of which only 2 were released.

*Since the line IS Japanese the title on the cards alternately says Monstress or Monstless. Cheesy*

The focus of this line was not articulation, but the "sexiness" of the ladies and the insane amount of accessories for each one.

All of the accessories are detachable and can store with the bases to some degree which varies from figure to figure.

Each lady came in 2 different colorschemes, while 2 of them had 3 different versions.

I will be breaking this article down into 3 parts covering 2 figures each.

So onto the toys. Shall we?

Curia

Curia had 3 different figures. There is the standard black, the clear and a red version.

The large coffin can store Curia, her sword, her 3 bats, 2 syringes, blood transfusion pack and bat monster. The winged skull on the coffin is detachable too.

Curia moves at the neck, shoulders and right wrist.

Red Curia!!!!

Next up is Wolfinica.

She came in the standard brown version and the purple version which I have.

All of her gear can store within the back of the large amp via pegs. Notice the yellow "wolvie" claw, the detactable wolf paw, the dog and 2 rats. The ONLY thing that is non-removable is the towel.

She moves at the neck and shoulders.

P.S. I forgot, she comes with this little dog skull with a nail sticking out of it.

Tomorrow will cover Steela and Gillealla.

Thanks for looking,

Stars

Wow again, Stars. These are the entries I love best - things I have never heard or seen anything of before! Outstanding stuff!

This is very interesting looking line - I can't wait to see Franken Steela - I think she'll be my favourite.

Also, I'm sure I dated a girl that looked just like that first figure when I was in high school.....

Part 2

Steela!!!!

Her 2 versions are the standard grey/blue and the variant neon yellow/green.

She comes with a lightening bolt necklace, a steampunk glove for her right hand, a frankenstein mouse,a skull, a brain, two vials, a syringe, a scapel, and a pair of pliers.

She also has the base which rotates from upright to horizontal with sides that rotate independantly. Also the electricity bolts can attach to her neck or shoulders and they are completely removable from the lab table.

She moves at the neck and shoulders.

Gillealla

Gill had the standard version, an alternate color version and a clear version.

Her "treasures" include a nice dagger with a seahorse motif, a rebreather pack with a mask that looks like her daddy, her dad's skull, 2 fish skeletons, and a treasure chest filled with coins and an octopus!!!

Notice all the detail on the seaweed and base!!!!!

She moves at the neck, shoulders and ankles.

Part 3 tomorrow featuring Series 2!!!!!

Finally here is the last series.

First up is Phanteana.

Notice the Monstless on the front of the card and the Monstress on the back?
Weird, huh?

Her 2 versions are the neon/silver that I have and the gold/black combo shown on the cardback.

She comes with 2 full masks, 2 half masks, an owl, a mask wearing skull, 2 mannequin head for the masks, a mixing board and a keyboard.

She moves at the shoulders and neck.

Next up is Noctilca

EASILY one of the best of these figures just based on the cool stuff she comes with and her look.

Her 2 versions are the pink one that I have and the orange version shown on the cardback.

She comes with a pumpkin with an opening jaw, a cat, a cauldron, a spoon, 2 mushrooms, a clove of garlic, an eyeball, and 2 pieces of mandrake, a hat, a newt and her broom.

She moves at the neck, shoulders and wrists.

And to top it off...

GROUP PIC!!!!

Thanks for looking,

What an insane line! I just love the crazy stuff the Japanese think up. I mean can you imagine the guys at Hasbro sitting around a table and suggesting a rat with it's brain exposed as an accessory?

Another awesome effort Stars!!!

Didn't Cartoon Network just do this as a show called Monster High?

(One wonders what the planned Series 3 would have included. Hunchbecca? Invisibillie? Mumuffy?)

Gillealla has a shell-like piece covering her crotch.

ALSO, I FOUND AN ALTERNATE COLOR FIGURE FOR HER!!!! ADDED PICS IN REVIEW!!!!

AND I FOUND THE RED CURIA PICS, ALSO ADDED IN THE REVIEW ABOVE!!!!

As for Series 3, it would have included:

CURSE OF MUMMYLA

DEATH RIDER CRONOLA

Here's a link:

http://d-arkweb.com/Figure/resurrection/index.htm

And another one with the prototypes of the 2 unreleased figures:

http://www.toymania.com/sdcc99/hobbybase/

And a link to both color versions of each figure, minus the 2 clear figures:

http://yakopu.fc2web.com/YKP/F_page.html

And ANOTHER link:

http://www.collectiondx.com/taxonomy/term/239

Also, Monster High is a webshow that had a special on Cartoon Network. My daughter has EVERY damn one of the toys. Santa was frustrated this past X-Mas, let me assure you, those things were harder to find that a virgin at a brothel!!!!!

She is a HUGE monster fan, being as she's named after a werewolf and all. I guess it's my fault... think.gif
