Title: Toys I grew up with presents: Super Naturals!!!
Post by: Stars on November 22, 2010, 09:38:41 pm
This is an odd little line. Made by Tonka in 1987 the feature of this line was the "new" craze...HOLOGRAMS!!!!

Basically each figure had a 2-way hologram for a head and chest. Each "hero" and "villian" had headgear and a clip-on chestpiece of some sort to cover the holograms. Then you could remove them to reveal each one's "power". They also had glow in the dark weapons and holograms on their shields.

All the small guys are Ghostlings. Four good guys and four bad guys. They were underlings or something.

Also, I have the Tomb of Doom. It has a coffin that reveals a hologram when you turn a dial on the back. It also has glow in the dark pieces and the large skull on top is a removeable working flashlight.

There were also 2 creatures and 2 vehicles, none of which I own.

Anyway, onto the toys!

Here we have the villians: Snakebite, Burnheart and Skull. Then the heroes: Thunder Bolt, Lionheart and Eagle Eye. 6 of the Ghostling are in the front, but I don't know their names. :D

Cool review, I remember them. I also remember the the ad's on t.v. as a kid. I think at that stage I had just entered high school and was too cool to play with kids toys..... as opposed to now :P

I had to give you a point Stars, you dig up the weirdest stuff.

That is such a cool line. I can't believe they're Tonka? 1987 was a bit late for me too.....though I was really digging my comics then.

Make that a point from me as well. Another line I've never heard of!

Great stuff Stars! Where do you keep all of this - is it all on display, or storage? Must be quite a collection!

Thanks guys!

I have had fun over the years finding and collecting obscure lines from the US. And one of the main reasons I have created these write-ups is that I want to inform people of things they may have missed. Looks like its working!!!

And I have been forced to put alot in storage. Storage for me is a huge walk-in closet that resembles a hallway, my finished attic, and my storage unit in the backyard.

That's what I miss about Australia. We don't have attics and basements as standard.

I honestly don't know. I assume it's to do with all the extra excavation needed and general cost to include them.

There aren't many things I miss about the US. The domestic architecture is one of them. Also: Dr Pepper.

Seems it's more popular here these days to build massive Houses that take up the whole Block.I'd love to have a Basement, much more cooler temperature and friendly for Plastic and Painting etc.

Nice work Stars, can't say i knew of these at all but they are definitely fun.The 80s was a time where i was flat out playing in Bands, chasing girls etc.My inner geek wasn't reawakened until 89 when Burton's Batman hit the Movie Screens.

I was led to beleive that yes it was to save cost and we didn't need basments for safty reasons as we (for the most part) dont get cyclones and as for attics insulating them is a problem.
When you think about it Australian architecture isn't very appropriate anyway we should build similar to nothern africa (small windows, around a centeral courtyard cooled with some soort of water if possable).

One of the projects I'm looking forward to is Michael Crawford's "Mancave". He's been working on it for a while and he has some cool stuff to display.

I would love a basement. I really like the idea of setting up my workbench down there rather than in the garage where I need to fight with two cars.
We almost bought a house that was built around a central courtyard. It looked great, but we soon found out due to poor drainage, the courtyard had caused water leakage and rotted half the floors out.

I remember having Burnheart as a kid- it was an interesting little line. What I find interesting though was how short-lived the hologram craze proved to be. Both this and Visionaries were great lines, yet both were incredibly short-lived.

Stars is good for that. He's got so much old stuff and digs it out for us every once in a while.
