Title: SDCC'09 DC stuff ogling happens right here!
Post by: FB on July 21, 2009, 07:21:05 am
Alrighty, with SDCC about to kick off we need somewhere to post all the cool DC related links to all that Plasticy goodness that'll be popping up everywhere. And if you're like me you never know where half of the best ones are.

So as you find something post it right here for us all to appreciate. ;D

History of the DCU Wave 4 has been revealed. Still no female figures:

Captain Atom (Ditko costume), Martian Manhunter, Kobra (wow!!) and Superman as Nightwing.

Atom looks brilliant and so does Kobra. Nightwing's a waste of space for me, although alot of people will be happy with it I'm sure. FB will be happy with J'onn methinks - classic costume.

..and in something that I am sure is going to shit alot of people - DCD is finally delivering a Reverse Flash, and it's in the McG style body. You can just see him behind other figures here:

AFI has a better pic of Reverse Flash. He doesn't look so bad from that angle:

http://www.actionfigureinsider.com/main/?p=4081

Is this going to get to messy in one thread? Should we have one for each of the major companies, or are people happy to throw it all in together?

Well,got a bit messy but it's sorted.

Now that's done all i can possibly say is whether i commit to HOTDCU or not"THAT J'ONN WILL BE MINE!!!!!"

What a classic look,i'm excited already!Thanks Andy

I'm really not sure that i can resist this line, what a great lineup they're developing. They look so good here:

http://www.actionfigureinsider.com/forum/viewtopic.php?t=15307

I think the whole no females solicited thing is started to become irrelevant to me,much to my chagrin.I notice too there's no Superman displayed there, maybe they're re-working that horrible headsculpt he had.
I think i'll have a look when i get to the US and see them in person and make up my mind then.

DCD 13" Poison Ivy. When I first saw this I thought it had to be a Tonner horror story. Looks dreadful.

Wow! That really is quite horrid isn't it? THe Catwoman ain't much to look at either. Oh well, more money for other stuff I guess.

That Captain Atom is just a must have. I was recently thinking about a custom job for him, but this looks great. J'onn looks pretty good, but I don't know if I need him... Really interesting head sculpt though. I'm still not convinced about the series as a whole. I was waiting for the first photos of wave 1 to hit this week, and it just wasn't enough for me to get into. The flocked Creeper does less for me than I was hoping. At this stage, I'm thinking only Black Lightning from wave 2, with Aquaman and Flash maybes.

Post by: Scotty on July 23, 2009, 06:51:47 am
I'm picking up my Wave 1 tomorrow and will be doing a pic-orama. It's all in the body sculpt, because despite the lack of a female character yet the selection is pretty amazing.

Title: Re: SDCC'09 DC stuff ogling happens right here!
Post by: FB on July 23, 2009, 06:56:54 am
J'onn was drawn in the earlier years with a much more"naturally"human shaped head so i'm thrilled to bits with this fig.The closest i ever thought i'd get to that look was the New Frontier MM.
I'm quite surprised DCD has just laid everything out there, thought they might hold some things back for a day or so like some of the other Companies do.Or maybe they are, time will tell.

The HOTDCU J'onn appeals to me for the same reason. We have enough "giant brow" versions, this is more classic SA. Definitely a must.

I wonder how tall that J'onn will be.  If there's not a taller, buffer male buck in the works for DCUC, their eventual version of Martian Manhunter will be too small.  This HOTDCU figure might be THE version to have for me.

Something we haven't may be mentioned: Chris Reeves Superman. FUCKING. WOW. That's a gather-all-the-neighbours-and-just-stare-at-the-thing-admiringly-for-hours type of piece.

Kobra is the big wow for me. Never thought I'd see him. And guess I don't have to make Captain Atom after all.  :)

New Women of the DCU Mini-Busts - not sure why we need ANOTHER Catwoman in this line, but that classic Batgirl and Raven look awesome:

New DC stuff I have spotted so far today:

12" Zod from Mattel. Not grabbed by this. He looks scrawny.

Batman rehashes from DCD. Might want that Riddler. Hope it's not a boxed set.

New Brave & Bold from Mattel - I can spot Shazam, Dr Polaris and Gold from the Metal Men! There's also some creepy dude in a cape I can't I.D.

I like that Robin but it says Detective Comics Boxed Set on the insert. (We could always go halves Andar.  ;))

As for the Brave and the Bold stuff I also see Firestorm up top and the guy in the suit I'm thinking is Black Mask.

Doh, I missed that. Bummer.

And I missed Firestorm too - good spotting! Hard to tell if it's Ronnie or Jason...

B&TB stuff is so a fun line.

Pretty sure she's the original SA Boxed Set Batgirl, so she'd be pretty tiny by today's standards.

After I've complained about it the last couple of years, Mattel's people have finally started to pose the DCUC figures better.  They're not looking all goofy in the glass cases.  Kudos.

I know what you mean Raj,it always bugged me at these Cons when a figure fell over and they never bothered to stand it up again.

From what i can tell in that Batman set:
-Batman is from that 4 fig set they did a while back.
-Batgirl is from that old SA set with Joker
-Robin is the NTT one from last year with a new head
-Riddler is the Superfriends one also with a new head

So basically Robin's too big,Batgirls too small and Riddler's just plain creepy looking.

I'm so bummed that Wave 10 is a WM exclusive - going to have to call in some favours for that one!  ;D

I particularly like Robotman, Beast Boy, Shark, Katma and Kilowog!

It just doesn't seem to matter about character selection at the moment - the details are just fantastic. Really starting to see the Four Horsemen flourishes.

For the place it has on the displat looks like Kilowog is the C&C of wave 11, not 10... So, he won't be in the exclusive wave right? RIGHT?

...

RIGHT?

I'm gonna be ranting more about the Public Enemies line on the blog shortly, but here is what they're calling an Icicle figure. Looks like a pale dude with a beak to me. Blurgh. And Brimstone, who would make a great DCUC C&C, looks like crap. Killer.

Yeah i thought the same thing and was also disappointed that they didn't have the JSA Series 2 figs on display.I'm sure they'll be out FS,i need that J'onn fig!
Still all in all i'm pretty darned happy at DCDs showing this year.

I really think DCD needs to be given some credit for their showing this con. Reverse Flash McG style side, they had a good showing with HotDCU and a great range of statues. A shame they didn't talk to the fans and reveal a bit more.

Even some of the Sites that always feature highly have actually not been up to the same standard this time around.

Definitely getting 3 of the Sinestro Corps 2-packs.  If Romat-Ru is the correct height, I'm definitely getting an extra just to put a Sinestro head on him.  The extra Ru head can go onto a GL body so I can have Tomar-Re.  Maybe a third can be Tomar-Tu.    Karu-Sil (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Karu-Sil) needs 3 of her "dogs" to accompany her.

I dunno about Fire. The way they have her posed she looks like she's on the dance floor doing the robot

Not many people know that performing the "thumbs up" action actually exercises your quads as well as your arms. That explains Booster's amazing quad strength.

I can't help it, I like the thumbs up on Booster. I know is cheesy but is also very representative of character and the comic. I love the fact that Beetle is not too muscular. The pose of Fire is just that: a pose that can be changed and the Oreo and J'onn's eyebrow are great. I think is great that they are trying to give the figures a little more expression and somthing different than a colsed fist or and extended hand.

Is true that the legs are knida weird though, perhaps this will be sorted out, none of wave 1 had massive legs...

I'm all for personality too, but give us an alternate heads and hands then.

That would have been an excellent idea.

I agree,it is refreshing to see them actually try and inject some personality into the figs like it or no.And let's face it Booster and Blue were such a pair of hams in JLI so i think this works.

Hmm, Blue Beetle is the only one I think I'll contemplate. He looks like a must have from those pictures, as opposed to the solicits. What is with those thighs on MM and BG?!

Manhunter and Booster look like they're wearing those pants the Nazis wore. Forget what they're called.

Yeah, he looks good.

I'm waiting for a JLU Aquaman with the classic costume and headsculpt sans long hair and beard. The new one combining the two just long wrong.
