Title: Marvel Universe Secret Wars 2-packs
Post by: Scotty on July 29, 2009, 11:39:17 pm
We already knew about:

Thor / Enchantress
Piledriver / Hawkeye
Thunderball / Spidey
Cyclops / Hulk
Iron Man / Spider Woman II
Mr Fantastic / Ultron
Captain America / Klaw
Magneto / Black Spidey
Wolverine / Human Torch

Looks like this sale of art confirms Bulldozer, Thing and Mohawk Storm:

Y'know I just don't know? Crapsbro are really starting to peeve me with the repeat characters. I really don't want another Spidey or Wolverine or Cap just to get these other characters  >:(

I see the Cap, Iron Man and spidey in that list, but no Wolverine... Man, Hasbro is loosing it. A preview list without another Wolvie figure?

WHAT ARE THEY THINKING?

Sorry, that's a typo. I put two Magnetos in there but I am sure there's a Wolvie. Not sure with who.

Brown costume Wolvie comes with Human Torch. I really can't wait for these packs. And there has to be at least 3 more being each set comes with an issue of Secret Wars. I'm hoping for a Dr. Doom and Baron Zemo personally.  :)

Thanks - edited my list. One of the missing three has to be Wrecker, and I'd be very surprised not to get a Doom. The other is a big question mark. Would love it to be Rogue.

Was Baron Zemo is Secret Wars?

Other prominent villains in this series were The Absorbing Man, the introduction of Titania and of course the Beyonder himself.

Dunno. But there was a toy of him in the old Secret Wars toyline.

Kang too. I want Kang.

Huh. There was too. However I'm pretty sure he wasn't in the series.

Yup, Kang was there in the first series (one of my favourites with Mike Zeck art!).
From memory, other series possibilities not already selected would be...

She Hulk, Rogue, Nightcrawler, Colossus, Captain Marvel (Monica), Wasp, Prof X, Lockheed (can't recall if Kitty was there)
Lizard, Molecule Man (drops the mountain on our heroes) and even a cameo by Galactus!

Kitty wasn't there. Personally I'd love a Capt Marvel II but I highly doubt it. I miss that costume.

Actually saw the Spider-Man/Thunderball pack today at SuperTarget.  Spidey's head looked pretty bad.  Looked dirty and the eyes were way too small.  Thunderball looked great.  The wash was a bit too heavy, but it wasn't bad.

I already have like three Spideys which aren't too bad, so I guess I'm buying that one just for the Thunderball.  :P

Not bad. They still had the whole set there but the QC was absolutely dodgy and I got the only decent ones.

My gf bought me the Torch/Wolvie and Piledriver/Spidey yesterday at TRU. Didn't have Klaw. They were $2 higher than Target there.

Currently turning an extra Cap I got into Swordsman.  :)

Y'know I just can't seem to get enthusiastic about this line. I have S1 and S2 and just haven't been enthused to chase the rest. The debacle with stuff like Nick Fury doesn't help.

Title: Re: Marvel Universe Secret Wars 2-packs
Post by: Scotty on August 15, 2009, 04:18:24 am
Fair enough. If I had a near-complete Marvel Legends collection I wouldn't be able to take these on board. I only ever cherry picked ML so this feels like a chance to get on the ground floor of a Marvel line. As I said in this post the QC on the Secret Wars figs is pretty haphazard, so I'm sure hoping that's not a trend.

Title: Re: Marvel Universe Secret Wars 2-packs

I would have preferred more MLs, but I got in during the death of the line. The MU figures are okay (most are alright) so I'm chasing them fairly hotly. I just get shitty with things like Nick Fury, and the difficulty tacking down the exclusives for a decent price (though that happened with ML to). I don't get why they don't drop the whole exclusives thing as far as Target and TRU as well. It basically hoses any non-USA countries from getting them at all. I'd love to see the numbers that make that worthwhile...

Title: Re: Marvel Universe Secret Wars 2-packs
Post by: Scotty on August 15, 2009, 08:43:44 pm
I think essentially the stores demand their own exclusives in exchange for carrying the line, so the toy companies are a bit bound in that sense. I agree, it sucks. The Nick Fury thing is a joke.

Got my Giant Battles ones from eBay (shipping took a month) today. Key issues are the 12" scale guys look a bit scrawny compared to the ML BAFs, but I'll see how they go when I set them free, and add Bucky to my burgeoning 3 3/4" collection.

I love the fact that we are getting more figures in this size - all my double figures go so well when it comes to my kids (and sometimes me) GI JOE vs Marvel vs Star Wars battles. I really want to get the exclusive larger figures but with the shipping pricetag and all I think I will wait until I have finished off the standard set (and two packs) first.

Oh and can anyone explain why there is no number 25 figure? Wave 3 ends with Figure #24 - Hand Ninja and Wave 4 starts off with #26 Union Jack. What exactly am i missing here?

Hey Andy, let me know how the "Giant battles" guys measure up to someone like the Giant-Man B-A-F.

So The Giant Man looks about an inch taller than the Marvel U Goliath, and maybe a bit more than disproportionately bulkier. If you wanna compare, check out my collection thread, I've posted shots that should help. I don't mind them, but I weep for the poor people (like one guy I know trying to put together the New Avengers in Marvel U) that need to get this just for, say, Bucky Cap.

Well I have managed to get every figure up to Wave 5 and including all of the 25th Anniversary Secret Wars packs. Ebay has the Gigantic ones but they seem pretty pricey as is Wave 6 which I have seen a few people on Ebay selling from US.

I am just hoping they bring some of these out in Australia soon!

Which figures are in Marvel Universe Series 6?

1. Casual wear Wolverine
2. Drunken Stupor Iron Man
3. 6-arm Spider-Man
4. Character you don't mind but rates about 85th on your want list
5. Non-constipated looking Hulk

Wait, 6-arm Spidey would cost too much to produce for a Spidey figure.

I think it was:
Wolverine (the early 90's we X-Men all dress alike uni)
Sunfire
Jean Grey (90's outfit)
HoM Spidey
Warpath (modern X-Force uni)
Vision

Well, astoundingly if you want Nicky F, he's going for about 70USD on eBay, and that's more than the variant Goliath. I could spend less money on a crack addiction.

Wrecking Crew without the Wrecker?  Nah, I'm sure he'll be coming out soon - that would be like Hasbro doing the Fanastic Four without Sue Storm the Invisible...what?  You mean they haven't?

Never mind....

I was fairly certain that one of the early promises of this line was that we'd get the whole wrecking crew. My Wave 3's are waiting to ship, so I'm just waiting for some other items to jump in the box with them...

Yeah, the FF series was Hasbro. She's been done a couple of times by Toybiz, in the boxed set and the non-legends Fantstic Four series. Then there's the movie figs and the Ronan figure by Hasbro. All actually quite 'meh'
