Title: fishmilkshake's collection
Post by: fishmilkshake on July 31, 2009, 10:13:57 pm
New stuff 18/09/14

Pretty exciting stuff at the Fishpond. After many years of waiting and hoping I finally got some kickass display cabinets.
Mrs 'shake was the catalyst suggesting I need something bigger to display my 'stuff'.

The units are 2 metres tall and best of all have fully adjustable shelves due to a rail system in each corner that allows you to position the shelf mount anywhere you like.

*Small world problem alert* Those premium format statues are bigger than I thought.

Finally got my Sideshow 'Rogue' statue! Huzzah! Man, I love this piece. My favourite female superhero as presented by Adam Hughes. Bless the man!

....and just a fun one. I'm also looking for the Batman "Just Us League" figure too if you've seen it anywhere for a reasonable price.

Man that Rogue is hot! Adam Hughes is either a genius, or the most stereotypical man I have heard of...

Genius!!!!!

I once saw some photos of him using a model for reference and let's just say I'd love his day job!

Awesome stuff!  Love A.E.N. as The Flash.  Too much.

Yeah, I love the Batman because he's kinda tripping on the cape  :)

Thanks dude! Just had to go make sure it was still there. Really regretting missing out on the White Queen though.
My birthday rocked! I haven't worked on my birthday in a decade (some would say that's no different to any other day). I always take the day off and do whatever I like.

Just wasn't a fan of the Series 1 Marvel Legends Hulk figure and managed to score the Sal Buscema inspired one from the Face-Off series. BigRaj is right, this version is just spot on!

Oh and the Red Skull finally! Managed to score it for a steal!

Whoa, that really is quite a nice figure.

You got some special photography going on there FMS?

Title: Re: fishmilkshake's collection
Post by: fishmilkshake on September 05, 2009, 10:16:37 pm
I might have to track that Hulk down myself.

There's actually two. This version came with the 'modern' Leader. There's a version where he's enraged and it came with the 'classic' Leader. Same body though.

You got some special photography going on there FMS?

Nah! Just whatever I can find at the time. I do plan on making more of an effort when my first custom is done (almost there). First is to diffuse the light so there's no shadows and second is to provide enough light that I don't need to rely on the camer a flash.

Finally got this bad boy. He normally goes for a decent price but I got this one really cheap because he didn't come with wings. Fortunately I have a spare pair of wings from the Annyh...Anihi...Anyha....B.A.F from that Hasbro Marvel Legends series with Hercules and the White Queen. They fit perfectly and I'll get around to painting them up to match

Dragon Man (even his mouth is articulated)

Certainly beats trying to find MOC. Yikes! I think he actually surpasses Toad and the Stealth Iron Man.

Outside of him being too small, he's an outstanding figure.  Great sculpting work by Toybiz.

Yeah, I think he's meant to be 20' tall. Sounds like a great candidate for a B.A.F. (presuming we get any ever again)

Finally!!!

This figure was my most sought after Marvel Legends figure. Why? Because the Fantastic Four series never made it to Australia (yeah, I know, big shock). But even if it did I wasn't interested in any of the figures in the series except Mole Man. The rest were just characters that had been done in other waves and I wasn't duplicating. As a consequence there was no chance I could make the B.A.F. I've been watching ebay but on the rare occasion that this figure is listed it goes for a hefty price. Finally managed to snag one when I just sent the seller a "would you accept an offer?". They cancelled the listing and Ronan the Accuser was all mine! Yay team!

Title: Re: fishmilkshake's collection
Post by: fishmilkshake on October 27, 2009, 05:33:17 pm
Thanks guys! Really stoked about this figure. Between this acquisition and Tyroc and Freak Studio helping me out I'm literally down to a handful of figures that I need to complete my ML.

As for the acquisition process, the two previous Ronan's I watched on ebay went for US$89 and US$69 respectively (the latter not posted internationally). So when I saw this one listed (literally in the first hour) with a starting bid of US$5, I sent them an email saying I'll give you US$50 right now and they said 'yes' and cancelled the auction. Postage was another US$10 but man did they do a good job, he was in a huge box (visible in the previous pic).

He's also a big fucker...pictured here with Series 1 Captain America.

Seriously FMS, it's a good thing I wasn't sipping tea from a fine bone china mug with my pinky extended when I saw that haul, or the insurance company may now be wondering whether we really are accidentally destroying computers with beverages in our household, or doing it on purpose.

That's a huge haul, and a massive declaration of intent mate.

There must be some issue with Catwoman - she was originally meant to be out in October. I'm kinda glad she didn't come out this week though - with Black Canary, Blackest Night Wave 2 and the Green Arrow Mini-Bust out this week I'm spending quite enough!!

Their crap distribution must be costing them sales, why is it taking so long to fix it?

Agreed. Folks like me who love the character selection will go to whatever lengths to get these, but the more average collector's love will only last so long if it continues. Hopefully all future waves will be sold on mattycollector which will help this.

Happy happy joy joy!

Managed to snag Wave 2 for just $80. That included both Superman and Firestorm figs and the short hair Aquaman

My Wave 11 came in from MattyCollector and despite specifically saying 'NOT' on the website it came with the variant Deadman (other Stepp is still MOC).

Thanks DC, that Rogue just gets better and better, but then she is my favourite female superhero and it is done by Adam Hughes.  ;D

I wasn't a fan of the Red Hulk figure, but I'm fond of that series becaus I picked them up on my holiday to the USA last year. Now that I've had the Rulk figure for a while I really like it a lot now.

As for my Marvel Legends, I have a second set of almost every series. Most of the variants are still M.O.C as I used to hold out until I could find them loose and then wouldn't have to open the other.

I've really been digging the Sideshow comiquette series designed by Adam Hughes. I continue to lament missing the White Queen, first in the series, but I've picked up all the subsequent releases and Mary-Jane is one of my all-time favourite statues.

When I first saw the promo shots of She-Hulk I was really unimpressed. The statue didn't grab me and I forgot about it. I then read an interview with Hughes who said the reason for his design was that he didn't want to do a 'muscle' pose as She-Hulk is often portrayed, but something that was still sexy. The idea that came to him was to capture Jen's sudden reaction after she 'hulks out' while wearing Jennifer Walters lawyer attire. Torn clothes and all.

I recently had the opportunity to pick Ms Walters up for a good price and decided to keep the series as complete as I could. Once I saw her 'in the flesh' I have to say my opinion immediatey changed and I'm now really taken with this statue. She is indeed sexy as hell and the non-standard pose is growing on me all the time. I'm now really glad I got her.

The detail on her face and <ahem> assets (bra, shirt, etc) are very sharp however there's some average paint work here and there such as where the skirt meets her legs. The shade of green they used for the skintone is really nice and there's no false shine to it. One other thing, she's big....really big. These are 18" scale and because She-Hulk is tall she makes for a big statue too. Compare her with the recent DCD Power Girl.

The Rogue statue is the one I wish I'd bought. ePay prices on that one are just killer.

I'm gonna get shot for saying this, but MJ just does nothing for me. The character, not just the statue. Boringsville.

Actually, s someone who forgot a lot of the 80s and 90s drivel that went on with her, I can see why you'd feel that way if you hadn't forgotten it. MJ is one of the most characters that is most easily mis-written (along with Aunt May), because everyone has no idea how to handle Peter's wife who happens to have been a super model (god knows why that decision ever came about, or lasted).

Title: Re: fishmilkshake's collection
Post by: fishmilkshake on March 08, 2010, 03:19:28 pm
Mary-Jane was just such a great supporting character for Peter. He had someone to confide in and there's just as many stories to be written about a married couple as compared to an individual. For some who missed a lot of the 90's, you could assume a disconnect from any character, but for someone like me who has read Spidey non-stop for more than 25 years....what Quesada did was a big deal. For non-stop readers my age, there's been more time with Mary-Jane than without.

As for epay prices, the Sideshow girls all seem to command big prices now. I watched a White Queen go for US$425. Not bad considering the original retail was US$125.

Don't get me wrong. I don't like what Marvel did in retconning the whole married thing. Not happy about that at all. I guess I meant more that I don't care about her enough to buy figures or statues of her.

My main issue with the MJ statue is that it crosses the line from being a sexy statue to being a porn statue.

Other than that, I think they all fantastic, and they would never enter my house.

Cheese cake yes, but porn no.  But then again, a load of webbing in the right place may change that.  I cannot understand why they would make a statue like that though.

Thanks for the support there Westy. If no nudity but sexy equals porn....I don't know what Jenna Jamieson does can be classified as then?

If that's porn I'm not sure how she should have been posed for non-porn then? Ski-Jacket? No smile?

I had some good luck recently when a shop that was closing down had some cabinets for sale. I managed to get four of these for just $100 (US$90) each. They're 1.2 m (4 feet) high and half as wide. Fully reversible glass doors with keyed alike locks too. The back is made of that Slatwall stuff that you can put assorted shelves and stuff in. In the process of getting them up on the wall.

Thanks guys! At this stage they're going up in the 'good room' with my home theater, etc. So the plan is to use them to display statues. Some of my statues have not seen the light of day in a long time. Turns out Slatwall is impressive stuff as you can get about a billion different attachments for them. Got some clear shelves on order and get them next week!

I've now pretty much got three of them up on the wall. Just gotta give the glass a clean and then start digging out the loot and making some decisions about what goes where. Means one spare cabinet for now  ;D

Thanks a bunch guys! I'm really, really happy with the finished look. I've never had this many of my statues out on display at once. In fact some of them haven't seen the light of day for 15 years. Was quite the <sniff> moment!

Andy - Nightcrawler was statue #3 (of 3) of the short lived Marvel Collector's Club. They were produced by NECA and are slightly larger than a Bowen.

FB - Yeah, I have a fourth cabinet and the temptation was there but I didn't want to crowd the room. Mrs 'shake gave me the go ahead but I settled for three. Was really impressed with my handywork too. Just 2mm difference between one gap and the other.

Dozy - Hah! It's a bit of a family cave. I've got my comic room elsewhere in the house and my comics and toys must remain within. She said I could have statues in this room so I went for it!

Niteowl - Looks better in person!  ;D

Westy - Took me a long time to get the home cinema. I literally saved for 2 years for that baby. Then got my work bonus and was allowed to add it all to the cinema fund! It's an earthshaker! The subwoofer weighs 32 kgs!!! (70 pounds). Believe it or not the best film I've 'heard' so far is 'Bolt'.

FreakStudio - Anytime mate! We have a dedicated guest room  :D

Thanks again for the kind words!  ;)  Now I just need to convince the saintly Mrs 'shake that I need Terrax to go with the Surfer.

WOW ur exhibition displays look pretty good FMS, i love’em & ur statue collection is fantastic... i like every single character, but the one i like the most is that disturbing Lobo... man, that gross character is a waste of absurdity & extreme nonsense violence, how couldn’t b my favorite ???... i start to feel affection for him since i read some comics of him... i’ll try to get at least one action figure of him, since i do think that without Lobo my collection is uncomplete LOL... XDDD

Yeah, Lobo is a classic and never so good as when drawn by Simon Bisley. The 'Lobo Paramilitary X-Mas Special' is still one of my all time favourite comics.

Some new stuff.

Donatello - Sideshow Collectibles

I wasn't going to get these guys, but once I saw Donny 'in the flesh' at my LCS I couldn't help myself.
As usual Sideshow have done a superb job, great pose, great paint apps, etc. Unlike some 'limited editions', Donny is limited to just 400.

fishmilkshake does not endorse Pepsi or it's subsidiaries.....without free stuff coming his way

This was a great score I got from ebay recently. An absolute steal, got him for just US$125 (A$140). Had to wait longer than I should have for it to arrive (avoid couriers when possible folks).

Ghost Rider - Sideshow Collectibles

For the shoulder pad thingies, I've seen people use upside down plastic spoons. It seems like a good idea, it might be a little bit tricky to get the rest of the costume to flow on from there though.

Can finally cross off a couple of long time wants. An ebay seller had two auctions for some loose Marvel Legends. His photos were poor group shots of misfit Marvel Legends people usually pass over like Lady Deathstrike and Mr Sinister. Won both auctions for $12 each and he did me a great deal on cheap postage. In addition to the fodder, in the background of the group shots were these guys.

Sabretooth (classic)

Really, really pleased to be able to add this one to my collection. The gorgeous Brandy Carter from the very missed 'Liberty Meadows' strip. Been a fan since Tyroc introduced me to University2 many, many years ago.

This statue captures the resident psychiatrist of the "Liberty Meadows" animal sanctuary perfectly. Best of all she's accompanied by two of the residents, Oscar the wiener dog and Truman the self-esteem deficient duckling.

Thanks Andy. I bought a light cube (big silk cube thingie plus two lights) off ebay and it comes with four backdrops. They're essentially a rectangle piece of material that hangs inside via velcro. This allows for a curve at the back which gives the appearance of a single background (no join where the vertical meets the horizontal). It came with four of these, black, white, red and blue. They are two sided, one has a slick silk like feel to it and the other is more like a felt. I'm just having a play with each of them depending on the subject. My Bulldozer pics were my first go at using the black background and this was a chance to play with the red.

So you're telling me you control the horizontal and the vertical?

The picture makes it look like it needs a fleshlight added at the opening...

Indeed I do.

I ended up removing the the front of the cube to take the multiple pics because it was just such a pain going in and out between photos. Normally I'll use the full cube with just the opening for the lens. I'm thinking about picking up a third light too because some objects just don't get lit up enough for my liking. I also wasn't sold on the animated gif because of the automatic conversion to a square. I'm gonna see what I can do in that space in Photoshop.

I'm also thinking of setting up a photography thread in the Custom Board and inviting Michael Crawford and Engineernerd (and anyone else interested) to provide tips and "how to", etc.

Through the LCS. Believe it or not they're cheaper than I could get them for off ebay, etc. They're also super limited. I think Mikey is an edition of 300 or so they don't come up on ebay often and I didn't wanna take the chance I'd miss them due to scarcity.

I was very lucky with the DCUC. They went on sale and I was picking them up for $15 per fig which at the time was a steal. A few extras came in handy for customising too.

I've done very well with Marvel Legends and I consider myself pretty lucky because I've been in the right place at the right time to get many of them.

......yes, but I don't want to take anything away from the Fish Meisters' thread. The ML look really good standing next to the DC figures.

Maybe Hasbro have turned the corner when it comes to production issues, my ones should be arriving soon. Any opinions, FMS? I haven't seen them close up yet.

Great haul mate,it's like XMAS all over again.Great selection of Figs there.Alfred has the best Pixie Boots ever. :D

There are some amazing subtleties with the Alfred figures that make them even funnier up close. For example, his 'briefs' are actually y-fronts and his clothes don't quite fit so you can see his belly button, etc. Just a really fun figure from a fun series.

Maybe Hasbro have turned the corner when it comes to production issues, my ones should be arriving soon. Any opinions, FMS? I haven't seen them close up yet.

I won't ramble about the DCUC figs as there are better ramblers out there than me. Although Guy is oddly tall compared to others. I literally bought the set for him so the rest will become fodder.

Winter Soldier is stunning. A really nice figure that is well executed and my favourite of the lot (and this is how Bucky Barnes should be). There's a lot of reuse there, his legs and boots being from (I think?) the Ultimate Nick Fury figure. But the head sculpt is perfect and I'm really happy. Warpath is another nice figure. I think he's the Hulking buck from the Young Avengers fig. Not completely sold on the headsculpt and am considering doing my own. He's only meant to be a young guy and this sculpt makes him look 50.

Hulk is a 'meh' figure for me. This is just a repainted Rulk figure with a new head. I'm not convinced anyone wanted this figure, but Hasbro went for the "sell" figure to make Valkyrie look better. Speaking of which, Brunhilda is unfortunately the weakest of them all. I'm glad I have one but the figure is poor in almost all areas. They've taken a spunky blonde hot chick in armour and made her look very dowdy. The face sculpt is very average, the buck is very average. Bit sad really.

Deadpool is nicely done and I wanted the classic Warpath so I ended up with the 'variant' Deadpool which is no biggie as I have the Wave 6 one. Lastly we have the Black Widow. She's actually not bad. I'm warming to the long haired version. Her face is pretty well done but I'm not digging the long hair. The female buck however is a vast improvement over the nappy/diaper wearing White Queen. I can see myself trying to get more for customs.

Let me know what you think when your stash comes in.

Thanks for the kind words guys, I really appreciate it.

I saw "The Terminator" at the cinema when I was a wee lad. Only one other kid in school had seen it and we raved about it for weeks. About a year later (as was the way at the time) it came out on video and suddenly everyone else was a fan  :D

To this day, Terminator 2 is one of my all time faves. It meets all expectations for heros, villains, special effects, pacing, action, etc, etc. I've always considered the "Cyberdine Systems Model - 101 Combat Chassis" to be one of the greatest 'villains' ever created. I've bought bits and pieces over the years but the 1:1 scale bust was always the ultimate want. The main reason I got this one (aside from the awesome price) was that the guy offered free shipping (the skull alone weighs 5kgs/11lbs) and the other was that he'd buffed off the T2 logo from the front.....something I always thought cheapened it as who doesn't know where this dude is from? Mrs 'shake isn't real keen on it staring at her while she watches TV so I'm still trying to work out where to display it  ;D She's a gem.

I received my supercool prize from FreakStudio and boy does this thing have a story to tell. Our trusty South American "homage" to M.O.T.U had a most amazing trip from one side of the globe to the other.

When I collected it, the fig was in a large plastic "Australia Post" bag. Something I've never seen before today. The whole thing was wet and the carboard and paper had literally fallen to pieces. Fortunately FS wrapped the figure in bubblewrap so it came through in pretty good shape all things considered.

Many thanks to FS for my prize  :D

:D Yeah, bizarre huh? The cardboard was wet and had been for a while. The water had really done a number on the package as the stuff literally fell apart in my hands. The lady at my Post Office (who is very good to me) said it just arrived like that? Who knows? But the fig is all good and will stand proudly alongside my knockoff Soundwave figure from Vietnam that I won from Oni.

Yup, they were all red in the original comics. The separate colours for their bandannas came from the cartoon show.
I see the Shredder statue is also based on Eastman & Laird's interpretation. Cool!

What did I get at SDCC you ask? Well, let's just say I got a little carried away. Here's a bunch of stuff, starting with the more generic....

SDCC loot - Pt1

I said once before that if Hasbro start doing Marvel "Minimuggs" then I'll give them a go. Sure enough.....

Was really stoked to finally get hold of one of these. Been looking for ages and when they turn up on ebay they ain't cheap. Got this one for a great price and it's so nice to not have to pay for freight on anything.

How could I say 'no' to these at just US$25 each??

Actually got these at Disneyland. Fun stuff

These were from Target. I'd love to have gotten the DC set too, but they're just so darned heavy.....and fragile

This bad boy is simply amazing. He's a fraction taller than the Toybiz one and weighs a ton!! The packaging is amazing!

(http://i49.photobucket.com/albums/f265/fishmilkshake/Collection/DSC02099.jpg)(http://i49.photobucket.com/albums/f265/fishmilkshake/Collection/DSC02100.jpg)(http://i49.photobucket.com/albums/f265/fishmilkshake/Collection/DSC02102.jpg)

More to come.....

The second half of the SDCC loot.....

Squirrellpool!! Heh! He was originally a joke but then Gentle Giant decided to run with it. He was a SDCC exclusive and it took me three goes to get one as the Thursday and Friday allotments sold out by the time I got to the booth.
(http://i49.photobucket.com/albums/f265/fishmilkshake/Collection/DSC02093.jpg)(http://i49.photobucket.com/albums/f265/fishmilkshake/Collection/DSC02094.jpg)(http://i49.photobucket.com/albums/f265/fishmilkshake/Collection/DSC02092.jpg)

Swampy! Should have seen me lugging six of these things around! Couldn't wait to get them to the Post Office and sent to their new owners.

I put off getting the NECA Predator figures because they're so pricey here in Oz. Lucky, because I was getting them for between $12-15 each in the US.

I filled a couple of holes with one or two back issues......okay, several back issues.......alright, a crap load of back issues. They were such a great price. Victim of circumstance I plead!

An assortment of misc figures, including the Marvel Legends Thor which I really, really like. I bought a Tick figure from Geoff. I really wanted to like this figure as it does look great. But when I opened it he literally fell apart as the crotch split in half. I had to carefully put it together again. Then in my luggage on the flight home he broke at the ab-crunch. Managed to fix that but his leg joints are so loose he can barely stand up. Not impressed. The Titanium Man proves that no one at Hasbro talks to each other because if Thor is 6'6" then he's 5' tall.

Pretty great haul, man.  Even the stuff I don't collect looks pretty awesome.  Giant-Man not fitting in the packaging is a nice touch.  After seeing the size of the Swamp Thing box up close (thanks again for that) how did you manage to carry around more than 2 or 3?  Did you have a wagon or something? ;D

I can't believe I missed the Squirrelpool, I actually thought they were gone for good after the first time I asked... If my wife ever finds out about this (she wanted it because it's cute and deadly) she's going to kill me...

Oh, I'll probably go back in 2013. Who's with me?  ;D

Thanks guys! Feeling very lucky indeed. Mrs 'shake is the best. This trip was an early b'day present for next year (which is a significant number)

How do you like the wave 3 Predator stuff?  Specifically, the dog thing, that's the one I'm hoping to find one of these days when I have money.

Love it! The Elder Predator is a beautiful (in an ugly way) figure. I'm over them reusing the bucks, but still for the price I paid I'm loving them. I wanted more of the 'dogs' but space was limited.

Nice pictures Shake, did you also take some at the con itself. Seems most of my friends dropped the ball when it came to taking pictures. That looks like a great haul. How did you get everything home?

Got you covered Don! I'll be starting a photo thread just as soon as I get copies of the pics my buddies took. Between the four of us we took about 4,000 pics at the Con. We each had two bags and they were bulging! I was worried about Customs because my second bag was essentially just loot!

Did you have a wagon or something? ;D

Mattel were freakin' awesome (more on this later). They had these cool carry bags that managed to fit 3 Swamp Things so I collected my stuff and headed straight for the hotel. On the Monday after the Con I was off to the Post Office to ship stuff out to you guys as I couldn't have taken it with me (I had to sacrifice bags of Peanut Butter M&Ms to fit Tyroc's GI Joe plane  :D )

I can't believe I missed the Squirrelpool, I actually thought they were gone for good after the first time I asked... If my wife ever finds out about this (she wanted it because it's cute and deadly) she's going to kill me...

Oh, I'll probably go back in 2013. Who's with me?  ;D

I'm glad I got away with it. Mrs Freak is such a nice lady she likely could have talked me into giving her my Squirrellpool  ;D

2013? Oh yeah, I'm there  [rock]

I think that I have been on line and contributing to various forums for about 10 years or so.

In that time I have never "met" anyone as generous as our fishy!! Just before he left, he sent me a pm to see what he could get for me whilst he was at SDCC.

Swampy arrived and I am a very happy man!!! here's to FMS [beer]

Those Predators look all kinds of awesome,so impressed you got so many.Squirrelpool is loads of fun too.Love the fact you got the opportunity to fill some gaps in your Comic collection. It's so easy to go berserk with Books at these Cons, they're so damned cheap.I actually had to stop going to those Vendors as i knew my Luggage weight limits were on the verge of total blowout.

Damn straight! Even after I posted back some stuff I was worried about the luggage limits. For QANTAS it's 23kg (50lbs) per bag. Mine were 22.6 and 19.8  ;D

Okay, here's some really cool stuff  [rock]

Wonder Woman sketch by Ramona Fradon. She was a really nice lady.

Print signed by Jerry Robinson. He was talking to me as he signed it and I could barely hear him. He's getting on.

Commission I got from Michael Golden. This guy is supercool. He was really engaging and funny! So glad I hit him up for a pic. Special thanks to my homie Jaymz!

Commision I got from Mike McKone. Really nice guy too. The detail in this is amazing!

Michael Golden is awesome!! I have a print of Spider-Man signed by him and Stan Lee when they were both up here for Emerald City Comicon a few years back [thumbs up] Also have a nice Doctor Strange print, that you probable saw if you skimmed through his portfolio. Truly engaging artist. Something I like is most of the talent seem really happy to be there, especially the comic book folks.

Couldn't agree more Don. I'd read some interesting things about Michael over the years, there were rumors of him ripping up his original art because he'd been fleeced by a dealer pretending to be the "ultimate" fan of his work, etc. But I really can't speak more highly of him. Jim Caliafore was also a really cool guy, my friend got a great Aquaman commission from him.

....and this is the big one. Y'know how you have a few of those holy grail goals in life? This was one of mine. If you've been on AFB from day one you might remember my disappointment when Mrs 'shake and I organised a trip to the US around the Wizard World LA Con so I could meet Stan as I got a VIP package and they canceled the show. I was gutted.

Well, this time it all worked out and I'm as happy as a pig in sh.....

Thanks guys, I'm still beaming.

Yeah, he was at a raised platform. I forked out for a VIP package which included the bust, a t-shirt (which is actually pretty cool) the signed photo and the meet and greet. When it was my turn I said "g'day" to Stan and as we chatted I asked if he could sign the photo to me and his 'minder' gruffly said "we don't have time for that" to which Stan turned to him and replied "Of course we do. I can sign this to Ben if he wants". I thanked him for that and kept on talking as much out of opportunity as to spite the minder. Stan was such a gentleman. I know his hearing isn't so good so when I asked him to sign it to "Ben" I spelled it and he laughed and said "I know how to spell Ben". We had a laugh....but truth be told I didn't want to have to forever remember the moment with a personally signed photo made out to "Ken" or something  :D

We got to meet Stan in another signing at SDCC and my wife told him we went there all the way from Argentina just to meet him. He laughed, he looked kinda moved and even welcomed her to the country, I think he would have made her an American citizen right then and there.

I told him he was the best cameo artist in history and that I enjoyed his work in comics too, he laughed pretty hard but then I ran away because I think he called security...   [yess]

Ah, you lucky bastards!! When he was up here, he couldn't personalize and didn't have any shots of himself. Which is how we ended up with a couple of prints from Michael. I sent a picture into POW!! for Stan to sign, but haven't received any notification it was sent back :-\ Still, I'm glad he bucked the system and personalized your picture ;D Captain Jack(Barrowman) did that when we met him a few years ago at SDCC. To which my wife replied, "OH, you are naughty". Hopefully the next time we all decide to go it will be at the same time. Cool stories, as always.

Hrrrmm.....yeah, it'd be nice, but I've kinda run out of room. I'm negotiating with Mrs 'shake to bring the DVDs out to the family room so that should free up some space to display my DCUC. The main thing I'm doing at the moment are the last bits and pieces of my comics. Because I've made room to easily get the boxes in and out as I put comics away I've had to pile up some stuff out of the way.

Madame Masque is the regular figure and there's a variant of Madame Hydra aka 'Viper'.

Pete Predator: "You are a slut NOW? And this is what you USED to wear? Man, I have to move to DC..."

Just dress up in a bat suit and stand around on a rooftop and wait for Catwoman to turn up to play.

A point to my bud FB for letting me know about this guy on ebay. Allow me to coin the soon to be standard action figure fandom term "Not Toys". Ergo, this is my Not Toys Hellboy.

What am I blathering about? Well this is for all intents and purposes the Hot Toys figure. However, it's unofficial and comes by way of our friends in Hong Kong who seem to have access to everything at the factory level. Considering how much the official one goes for on the secondary market I had no troubles putting my conscience on ice long enough to hit the BIN button on the ebay listing. If there's a difference to the official version I don't know what it is?

Thanks again mate.

What's weird is that the official version doesn't seem to come with the three heads? Not sure where the 2 extras I got came from??
Also, the 'standard' head I got seems to have a bit of a wry smile to it, where as the official one seems to be tad angry. Dunno? It's all still a win for me!

The pants and shirt are material (as is the belt). Best of all, his claws are perfect. They get drawn in plenty of different ways and this is exactly how I prefer them. And they're sharp!!

TF - My action figure pics are pretty dated now. In fact I've got about 10 or so DCUC on display as I'm still trying to sort out what to do with them. I've been thining things out a bit to make space  [gah]

Whoa. I've been wanting one of these for a long time. First I've ever heard of over runs/factory surplus Hot Toys figures. Gonna have to ask around about them here in the Philippines and see if I can't get one for myself.

Deadpool arrived on Friday. Just a beautiful piece.

The quirky pose works really well and the paint is flawless. There are two heads for alternate display, a classic "round black" eyes and the more modern one seen here.

A Rocky's Vault exclusive, I managed to get in as one of the first ten orders and secured a signed version of Drac which came with a bonus sketch  [yess]

I have very fond memories of Tomb of Dracula as a kid and was drawn in by Gene Colon's art. Randy has done an amazing tribute to him, this statue is absolutely superb.

I was very fortunate to get to meet Stan Lee again. That's twice more than I ever thought I would given we live on different sides of the world. I got him to sign two things for me.

The first was the pic my buddy took of us at SDCC 2011.

(http://i49.photobucket.com/albums/f265/fishmilkshake/Collection/Comic003_zpscf2d5e90.jpg) (http://s49.photobucket.com/user/fishmilkshake/media/Collection/Comic003_zpscf2d5e90.jpg.html)

I decided to get a comic signed, but really couldn't decide what to get him to sign? There's so much good stuff to choose from. In the end I decided to dig out Amazing Spider-Man #33, the famous issue where after a fight with Doc Ock he's left trapped under tons of machinery and almost gives up.

I was fortunate to have a chat to Alan Davis at Popcultcha Con. A very nice chap indeed and we had a couple of very fruitful business exchanges  ;D

The first was an opportunity to have him sign one of my all time favourite comics. Uncanny X-Men #213, What was even cooler was I had Chris Claremont sign the issue first....22 years ago at my first ever con!!

(http://i49.photobucket.com/albums/f265/fishmilkshake/Collection/Comic006_zpsce2fe896.jpg) (http://s49.photobucket.com/user/fishmilkshake/media/Collection/Comic006_zpsce2fe896.jpg.html)

While he wasn't taking commissions (he says he's too slow) he was doing infrequent head sketches. I asked nicely and he rendered my fave thundergod for me.

(http://i49.photobucket.com/albums/f265/fishmilkshake/Collection/Comic002_zps27a581df.jpg) (http://s49.photobucket.com/user/fishmilkshake/media/Collection/Comic002_zps27a581df.jpg.html)

I also found out that one of the reasons Alan Davis original art was so hard to come by is because he sells it at Cons rather than via a dealer. He had some good stuff there, but I was sold when I came across my fave gal Rogue in every panel of X-men #93 page 19. Awesome sauce!

*First world problem alert* Those premium format statues are bigger than I thought.

Or have you read any of the "modern" series by Owsley/Priest, Ennis and/or Dysart?

I've read most of the classic stuff.....but I'm sure there's a good handful (or two) I've probably missed and even more I can't remember anymore. I'm slowly filling in the gaps of my collection with mostly reader copies. I read the Jim Owsley stuff and the Ennis stuff. I keep meaning to go back and re-read the Ennis mini so I can appreciate it more, but I met Tim Bradstreet who was a complete tool so I seem to keep putting it off.

The stuff I'm most fond of is when he got his own series (post SSWS). I found a huge stash of them at a second hand place when I was a wee lad and the guy only wanted 10c each. Still have them. To this day I think Kubert did some of the best covers ever.

People tell me the Dysart stuff is good and I'm sure I'll get around to it one day. Someone also told me recently that the original surfaced in the DCNu Suicide Squad I think?

All true. He's kinda like the Rick Flag on the nu52 team. But since it's the era of Wolver-Iron-Bat-Deadshot as the "lead leader type", he kinda is reverted to "dick" Cyclops rather than "strategic master" Cyclops.

I enjoyed the Dysart stuff. It's not for everyone though. I tended to think of the Winick Batwing series as the McDonald's Express version of that book.

Too bad there's never been a figure of him done in any of the DC lines.

Or has there and we just never knew it was really him?

So my Ms Kyle arrived and she's gorgeous! I'm happy and she looks great with the other gals.

Mark Newman is just an amazing sculptor.

Almost a two year wait, but it's here at last.

ARH Studios 1/4 scale Death Dealer.

Just epic! !!

Damn, that is really nice. You could build an altar around it with candles and put it in the front window. That would keep any intruders away.

Heh heh. True. I could surround it with Hellboy items to really add a demonic presence.

Thanks 78T. The shields are still around and I'm glad they sold well enough to warrant the continuation of the cosplay line with StarLord's mask, and Mjolnir.

In the meantime, I managed to acquire a 1/4 scale Silver Surfer statue from Xionart Studios. #17/60.
I'm pretty much 1/4 exclusive with statues now. It means fewer acquisitions in the course of a year due to the price, but damn if they aren't awesome.
This piece is so slick. The chrome really pops and the Galaxy-potato pics I took don't do it justice.

Yeah, it is amazing to see in person. The light reflection is great.

In terms of statue accomplishments, Death Dealer is still one of the greats. Nothing in my collection has greater presence. It's a tip of the hat to both Frazzeta as the artist and Ehren Bienert for his sculpt.

Hah! Yeah, I'm gonna look into the best way to polish him. He shows each and every fingerprint. I'm still one step short of resorting to donning cotton gloves when opening and assembling statues.

I scored a set of the Bandai Explosion effects Red and Grey. There's some shortcomings with their design, but if you're patient they're fun.

I tripped and fell down a very slippery slope with XM Studios 1/4 scale statues.

I love BRB and since Sideshow wasn't in a hurry to do this guy and XM stepped up I gave them a chance.....and it's astonishing. Paint is amazing!!!

So Mrs 'shake said if I could raise half the cost by selling existing stuff (by-bye to  Star Wars 12" figs) she'd match it by putting in the other half for X-Mas.

Possibly the greatest statue ever made!!!!

....and yes, that's the Marvel Legends Ghost Rider & his first appearance comic for scale.

Hah! Thanks man. Like Scotty, It's been cathartic going through my collection and moving on stuff I've decided I don't need anymore. There's only so much one can collect and so many lines are getting quite deep and diverse (I'm looking at you high end 12" Star Wars) so it's time to focus on the few that I enjoy the most and reinvest the funds there.

There's a few other 1/4 statues I've got my eye on, but I need to get a few more ebay sales up and running first.
