1  The Collector's Life / The Pegs / Re: MASTERS OF THE UNIVERSE CLASSICS THREAD on: January 02, 2018, 01:05:07 pm
I sold a bunch of extra MOTUC I had on Ebay in November. They sold for ALOT. Don't know about the newer stuff, but at least some of the older stuff seems to have a big demand.

My wife brought this up when we were talking about which figures they were probably going to make. There really isn't anything that interesting. Even the casino, according to a video I saw they did some reshoots just to add more creatures in.

To be fair, Luke had about twenty minutes of conversation with Obi-Wan and then a quick training-montage before becoming Luke Freakin' Skywalker.

Not that I care how fast Rey learned the Force really, but Luke didn't really do anything in ANH where he was considered a Jedi. Sure he blew up the Death Star, but Obi-Wan was kind of holding his hand during that.

Then in ESB he gets a couple of days (weeks maybe) with Yoda. Closest he gets to being a Jedi is fighting Darth Vader at the end. And he loses pretty badly.

There's a couple years between ESB and ROTJ I think? Who knows how much training went on in that time. Luke is a better Jedi and defeats Jabba's gang impressively. He then goes to Endor and loses once again to the Emperor. He was never a super powerful, full-fledged Jedi overnight like Rey appears to be.

If I had the cash right now, I'd just go to eBay and get:

Love this set. Still have all the figures on display.

Took the kids to see it today. It still had some issues, but overall I liked it a lot better than the first time around.

Saw it Friday night with the wife. I really liked about 50% of the movie, which is frustrating. Everything between Luke, Rey and Kylo was great. Liked the idea of how/why Luke helped turn Ben toward the dark side. The Snoke character was also interesting and the lightsaber battle in the throne room was great. Also enjoyed Poe's story arc where he's a hot shot pilot who doesn't really know what he's doing and screws everything up. Loved when Leia broke in and shot him. And while ALOT of this movie was similar to ESB (like the whole basic story just being the Rebels on the run the entire time) just in a different order, I didn't really care about it in TFA and don't mind it here either.

However some of it I just felt was poorly done or outright shit. Hated the entire gambling planet scene with Finn and Rose. Felt like something straight out of the Prequels and not one of the few good parts. It only made matters worse when that entire excursion ended up being pointless because Leia and Holdo had a better plan and the Poe/Finn/Rose plan didn't amount to anything. Roll Eyes Though I did kind of enjoy Captain Phasma's horrible character showing up again, just to do the same amount of nothing. lol.

As for Poe, while I did really enjoy his little arc of the hothead fuck up, it also ultimately amounted to nothing. Sure you got tons of people killed and lost half of our fleet. Sure you caused a mutiny on the ship because Holdo don't think you're special. BUT we aren't going to punish you at all for it. Because the girls (Leia & Holdo) still kinda think you're hot. wtf.

Speaking of Holdo, her sacrifice would've had a lot more emotional investment had it been Leia who made it. Or even Ackbar who really got shafted in this movie. Though it was nice to see the new film get a new nuke the fridge moment with space Leia. What I thought was a horrible dedication to her mid-film just turned to completely pointless dreck when she did whatever that was.

As much as I liked Snoke and thought the Throne Room battle was awesome, I don't know what they were thinking of killing him off the way they did. Mostly because like Raj said, at least give us some sort of explanation on who he was first. I'm not asking a lot. Jabba was just a gangster with his own palace on Tatooine, run with it. But Snoke has this built-in mystery because he took over AFTER the Emperor and Vader's defeat. Give us something.

Finn's sacrifice during the Hoth battle was really well done and I felt bad about him dying... until he didn't. It would've been the one death in the movie where I surprisingly cared and it didn't feel tacked on and it's the one that didn't happen. As I said, the movie was frustrating in places. And not in a good way.

I did really like the Luke battle at the end. It was cool how he Force projected himself there. Until... he died. Completely out of nowhere. Wouldn't have even been so bad if he'd just vanished right after the battle like Obi-Wan and Yoda. But instead we get that weird sort of heart attack going on. Thinking back on it, it would've been much cooler if when they flashed back to cliff world, they'd revealed that Luke had offed himself 10 years earlier after turning Kylo and had been teaching Rey as a Force ghost the entire movie. Would've also made sense with the way they handled his character.

Will be seeing it again with the kids tomorrow. Maybe some of these issues won't bug me so much then. Maybe there'll just be new ones. But so far the film is a bit of a muddled disappointment after how much I liked The Force Awakens.

P.S. Surprisingly the Porgs weren't annoying at all.

Only one I kind of wanted was Hordak. Not that bad though.

But in this case people only assumed Iron Fist was Asian and later insisted he should be anyway, cause... y'know... he knows Kung Fu. Which is... y'know... kinda racist.

I really liked the fight choreography in this series. I know a lot of "fans" were probably disappointed he wasn't snapping bones through skin and making a bloody mess of everyone; but to me it felt more like he was a martial artist because it actually looked like his intent was to subdue his enemy and stop the fight. As opposed to just destroying everyone because it looks badass.

I liked the show too. Don't get the hate, other than the fucktards complaining that a white character was... white. Roll Eyes

Probably my second favorite Marvel show after Daredevil.

What's with the people in Bartertown talking weird? And when does Tina Turner show up?

Really like how they're continuing to make characters from all the different versions of MOTU.
