1  General Geekery - The Comics, Films and more that inspire the Toys we love! / The LCS / Re: Dynamic DC comics discussion on: June 17, 2019, 06:07:14 am
Last week, DC announced that Bendis and Ryan Sook were the creative team selected to bring back Legion. Apparently, the chance to write Legion was the linchpin for Bendis going to DC. Based on the asexual design of Saturn Girl, I'm expecting a lot of modern-day changes -- some for the better, many for the worse.

2  The Collector's Life / The Pegs / Re: SDCC 2019: Six weeks out. Any thoughts? on: June 10, 2019, 12:18:53 pm
I'd love to see one or two WTF figures from Legends -- along the lines of Omega the Unknown or GG's most wanted Legend --  Killraven. Seems unlikely unless they show up in some modern story. Sometimes, a good design should be enough.

Still waiting for a six inch Thunderbird, Northstar, Aurora and Snowbird.

Along those lines --- a couple more classic Avengers -- Swordsman and Mantis, in particular. FA Wonder Man would be awesome -- honestly don't feel any of his black/red outfits were that great. I know his original (and second) outfits were corny, but they suited the character. He never seemed as powerful when he lost the cowl.

Are these retro figures only available online? I don't think I've seen any in the stores.

I'd love to get a vanilla Iceman. I don't think I have any Iceman figuers -- other than the snowman version that came with the old 5-inch classic X-Men boxed set.

The 'necklace' on Puma is similar to the one worn by Fang of Imperial Guard -- still hoping for he and a Logan head in a future X-wave (more Imperials, please!).

I did finally spot Silver Sable at a Walmart. 90s is a bit past my must have date, but I picked her up. Night Thrasher was a pass.

I haven't seen Deadly Class, but I did like Happy. I could see people losing interest, though, after the first season.

A couple of old Indy series that I think would be great on Netflix on Mike Baron's Badger and Steven Grant's Whisper.

Of the two, I preferred Whisper -- the story of a a young woman whose stepfather was involved in a Japanese crime family. Initially she has limited martial arts abilities, but pretends to be a ninja. Over time, she gradually becomes a formidable fighter.

Pretty sure the only Dark Horse series I read were Barb Wire and Ghost. I kinda doubt anyone would touch Barb Wire after Pamela Anderson's take on the character, but Ghost seems a distinct possibility.
6  General Geekery - The Comics, Films and more that inspire the Toys we love! / The Geek Boy and Girl's Vale of Visual Amusement / SyFy's HAPPY cancelled on: June 05, 2019, 06:12:00 am
The Chris Meloni series based on an Image Comics series by Grant Morrison has been cancelled after two seasons. The second season apparently struggled in the ratings. The first season is doing well on Netflix, so there is a possibility of Netflix producing a 3rd season. It would likely depend on how well the second season of Happy performs once it is on Netflix -- only season one is currently available.

I recently finished the first season and would recommend it to anyone who likes a shot of heavy violence mixed with dark comedy and some elements of fantasy. I didn't realize this was based on a comic book when I started reading it. Didn't learn that until I was discussing the series with a friend who also reads comics. The premise is that Chris Meloni's character is an ex-cop turned hitman whose grade school age daughter is kidnapped by a psychopathic department store Santa Claus. Meloni is not aware that even has a daughter until her imaginary friend (voiced by Patton Oswalt) appears to seek his assistance in finding the girl. Other characters include the ex-wife, the ex-girlfriend who is a cop in service of a mobster, and the mobster's sister who is the star of a Housewives show.

Altoona Wal-Mart had all of the new X-wave with exception of Weapon X and Beast. Of the wave, Beast is the only one that interests me.

Looking good!

I've passed on Hercule despite the excellent sculpt and my love of the character. Hope I don't regret it later.

I've kinda been following HiC on the various sites/boards. Anything with modern Harley is an instant turn off. I don't know if her apparent popularity will have longevity or not, but I can't see it. I'll wait to see if those two books make DC Comics safe to read again.

Okay, I think the latest trailer convinced me that Dark Phoenix may be worth seeing. Keep in mind that I have not yet seen Avengers Endgame.

I have long tired of the focus being on Magneto, Prof. X and Mystique, but I want to see Jean put Magneto in his place.

Jim Lee's X-Men is where I started reading, so these hit a sweet spot for me.  And Forge is awesome.  The power to invent anything?  Beyond awesome.

Just not visually exciting...
14  The Collector's Life / The Pegs / Re: Marvel Legends - Discussion thread on: May 06, 2019, 08:11:56 pm
I'll pick up that Beast. I'd much rather have something from the Perez Avengers -- as this is obviously Jim Lee era Beast. That wave is my least favorite X-wave to date, but it should do well being that 3 of the characters were in the cartoon -- and that seems to be huge draw for some people.

Forge looks great, but... it's Forge.

I never completely kicked the habit of buying at least a few comics per month, but I don't get any satisfaction from it -- and should probably just call it a day. The LCS I go to is almost always sold out of anything I might want to pick up. I have a few titles on a pull list, but could easily drop those.
