1  General Geekery - The Comics, Films and more that inspire the Toys we love! / The Geek Boy and Girl's Vale of Visual Amusement / Re: DC CW Game Changer. No Spoilers. on: May 20, 2020, 02:17:36 pm
Someone pointed out in another forum that everyone at the losers table in the cafeteria will make up the new 'JSA'. I guess, then, that was Beth Chapel, Rick Tyler and Yolanda Montez. Apparently they will all be teenagers and not young adults. I had expected Courtney to be the junior member.  So no idea how this Beth Chapel will be connected to Dr. Mid-Nite being that she's still in high school!

Watched Stargirl on CW this evening and found it very entertaining -- maybe even better than Supergirl season 1. I will periodically tune in to a CW DC show, but usually regret it (I'm not a fan of Berlanti turning the solo vehicles into ensembles).

Stargirl looks like it will follow some of those CW tropes, but in this case it's using actual DC characters -- not making ones up for the show. The only disappointment for me was that it appeared a very minor group of the Injustice Society caused the end of the JSA, but maybe there is more to the story than has been revealed. Oh, and also was alarmed to see the only female in the JSA group photo was apparently Hawkgirl. I guess they can't use Black Canary, and wasn't expecting Wonder Woman, but Power Girl would have nice.

I have no idea who any of these characters are, but they all look fantastic. Nice job!

I was out to the 'local' markets today for the first time in two weeks. I stocked up on some items that I haven't been able to get recently. Not tp or pts -- I always have enough of those in stock to last a month or two.

At Wal-mart, I saw the Black Widow wave -- which is disappointing unless you like film characters but even then -- Yelena is bland. Taskmaster actually looks good, but the only figure I'd consider is Spymaster. I passed on it -- as the character never made much of an impact on me. I know he appeared in the Romita Jr./Layton issues of Iron Man, but whatever.

I also saw a Superman dressed up like he belongs in Lord of the Rings as an agent of Sauron.

Storm/Thunderbird would be amazing! I guess they've slowed down the release of X-Men waves?

Found Shang-Chi. I missed the box at first -- because it was on a shelf below the pegs. I fear those movie Wasp figures may be around even after the apocalypse (which looks like it may be approaching  Jaw Drop).

Has anyone seen Shang-Chi in the store?

Definite thumbs up on Mindhunters. I'd live to give Batwoman a chance, but I watched some of the Crisis crossover -- and it didn't give me much reason to watch any of the CW DC shows again.

Oh, Doom, Reed and Sue weren't on the shelf. There was one Johnny, one Jen, and three Bens.

Saw the new FF wave at Target. No interest -- as this is all modern takes -- including monster She-Hulk. It's a shame because with the exception of the Thing, I never saw any of the FF members at Walgreen's -- and they're going for kinda steep prices in resell.
11  General Geekery - The Comics, Films and more that inspire the Toys we love! / The LCS / Re: Mighty Marvel Comics discussion on: January 29, 2020, 12:13:46 pm
Guardians of the Galaxy was added to my pull list for the last iteration (figured it had to be an improvement over Bendis and MCU versions). It was okay. With Nova joining, I decided to stay on for the rebooted reboot -- for a few issues.

I may try the new Spider-Woman series -- even though I'm pissed about the new costumes which makes her look like a Spider-Man groupie. Pathetic, Disney-Marvel!

The LCS that is most convenient to me only gets an issue or two over what is ordered by customers -- so there are many books I never see -- especially the new X-Men books. But the owner said that there are very few people subscribing to X-Men.

I've been ready to call it quits for some time, but I'm letting it happen organically. Once I'm no longer reading anything new -- that will be it. I'm still supporting collections of classic material, but there isn't much left at this point. I'm reading more paperpacks these days. I'm a big fan  of Harlan Corben.

They showed up here at Wal-Mart a couple of weeks ago. I haven't seen Batgirl or Nightwing. I really have no interest in what's been shown so far.

Sadly, I found the 80th anniversary Iron Man at a temp calendar/toy store in the mall. I didn't see a price, but assumed it wouldn't be that different than Walmart or Target. Wrong! Price came to almost double what I'd pay there. I thought about taking it back -- but I'd probably only get store credit. Lesson learned!

First look!

The iconic Batman and Superman figures look good, but I really need a deeper character assortment before I jump onto yet another DC figure collection. For me, I think it's too little, way too late.

Spymaster probably wouldn't make my top 1,000 most wanted figures, but this is a nice classic villain among mostly flim figures.
