1996  General Geekery - The Comics, Films and more that inspire the Toys we love! / The LCS / Re: Dynamic DC comics discussion on: September 04, 2013, 08:16:38 pm
Aquaman was a solid read, but I when Reis left, I used it as a jumping off point. I paged throught the most recent issue on my last LCS visit, and it looks solid. But I'm just so burnt of DC butchering its history, that I just don't care to continue supporting them.

That said, I'm still getting JLDark and Batwoman. Batwoman is very closed off from the rest of the DCU -- and that helps it, IMHO. I'm quickly losing interest in JLDark -- it's bit too superheroey -- and not enough Vertigo. Can't believe I'm saying that -- but I thought the first arc with Enchantress actually had a pretty good supernatural vibe. Lately, though, it's mostly missing.

I just found out Mahmud Asrar resigned from Supergirl in June and that issue 20 was his finale. Althought the writing has been decent, it's his amazing art the kept me on board. He's not quite in the big leagues yet, but he will be the next Coipel/Immomen/fan fave artist at Marvel, methinks. Anyway I'm dropping that title effective immediately. And as Scotty mentioned above, Legion bit the dust last month. Unfortunately, Paul Levitz didn't bring his A-game to the title, but there were other problems with the series -- some of them probably editorially dictated, that made it a less than stellar (being kind) book to read.

Most of my DC Comics purchases for the foreseeable future will be classic material. There are plenty of trades and a few old archives I need to get. Among those about to be released are a trade collecting the 70s Joker series and a softcover volume of Secret Society of Super-Villains.

I listen to most of the weekly podcasts, so I don't feel like a complete newb here. Anyway, appreciate the welcome and will see you all in the threads.

Um, what the Hell happened?!  Jaw Drop

Anyway, grateful to Scotty and company for providing a meeting place. I really wasn't aware of the Mess meltdown until this afternoon...
