Are the toys, action figures, vehicles, weapons, and equipment better than the cartoons, comics, movies, and media?

Yes.

Why is that?  Without the cartoons, comics, movies, and media the toys are meaningless.  The toys have no life.  They won’t sell.

A toy will sell as long as it has play value, regardless of the media tie-ins. These tie-ins do have a certain impact on short term sales, but ultimately it all boils down to how much enjoyment people derive from the product. I think. think.gif

What’s the point and appeal of mint-in-box and mint-on-card collecting?

Don’t people want to play with their toys?

i suspect there are at least two ways for people to go mint-on-package collecting.

One starts with the notion of toy collecting  as a plausible form of monetary investment. I do not suscribe to this point of view, and to be honest, I find the personalities that delve into this to be rather grating.

The other one starts as a form of apathy. People acquire so much that starts falling behind on their unboxing and before you know, there are boxes and boxes filled with mint-in-package toys that will probably never see the light of day.

I am sure there are other ways to fall into Mint-In-Package Collecting, but these are the ones I have seen first-hand.

Transformers are action figures, yet those who identify themselves as “action figure” fans usually do not collect Transformers.  Why is that?

I think it’s because Transformers figures are too expensive.

Any other thoughts or insights?

Transformers are less than Star Wars Black figures depending on the scale. I'm an action figure collector and have a few Transformers cause they are cool. I do not understand your point.

I’m just wondering why Transformers does not get as much discussion on this forum compared to MOTUC, Star Wars, Thundercats, Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles, My Little Pony, etc.

I think there might be general rule against it and Elmo.

Okay, okay, maybe not My Little Pony.

My point is that Transformers compromise a relatively small part of the action figure community.  And I want to know why?

Well, I can only speak for myself and while I do concede that Transformers is one of the more innovative toy lines ever created, I don't consider them action figures, as I perceive them to be stuck somewhere in between that and model cars. And even though I do have a few Transformers toys in my shelves, I don't think I ever was part of their target demographic.
