Ps3 could play any game (no region code) . The downside, region locked on dlc ,which you need multiple accounts on psn e.g. US psn account to download dlc. Also movies are region locked.
Update:phone auto-corrected what I typed

I've never bothered with downloadable content.
I can't remember the last time I got a bluray from the US. Since UK has the same region as AUS I get all mine from Amazon UK. Same goes for X-Box 360 games.

The way to solve this problem is to get an All Region All Code dvd player like I did years ago. I play dvd's from China, Japan, England with no problems.

Yah, as do I. The problem here is the sales people are less than helpful in telling you which models are region free. Then of course there's the issue of not being able to lend it to anyone as it won't play on their generic player........if you're the type that lends stuff.

That's good for DVDs, but have we got a good solution for blu ray?

Same principle. My Samsung Bluray player is region free. But to be honest, I don't really buy blurays from the US much anymore. I just wait for them to go on sale here, or if I can't wait that long I get them from the UK which is the same region as here.

Bumped again, for goodness.
I'm in the market for another bluray player since we upgraded the TV in the bedroom and fucked if I can find a region-free unit. The sales people seem to have started their end of year "I just don't give two shits" wind down as I can't get anything useful out of them.

I stopped buying Doctor Who DVDs because of the American editions having songs / scenes cut out. At some point I'd like to buy a region free player so I can have the complete episodes -- shame I don't like the covers on the British releases.
I hope it won't be hard to find one when the time comes!
