The Collector's Life / The High End / Star Ace Steve McQueen review, Toy Fair Coverage
on: February 17, 2015, 05:03:09 pm
Let's start out with tonight's review - it's a great new figure that you might not know much about. Star Ace is an up and comer in the sixth scale market, and fans have been raving about their Harry Potter work so far. Tonight I'm looking at a different license, but one that pleases us old timers. It's their Steve McQueen figure from the film The Great Espcape. He's top quality, and bodes well for their upcoming releases. You can find my review here: http://www.mwctoys.com/REVIEW_021815a.htmor with the rest of the reviews at the usual: http://www.mwctoys.comAlso, I've got a good chunk of Toy Fair coverage up at this point, including Mezco, NECA, Spinmaster, Toy Tokyo, McFarlane, Factory Entertainment, GoodSmile, Jakks, Lego, and a few misc companies. You can find the main page here: http://www.mwctoys.com/tf2015/tf2015_main.htmAlso, I mentioned that I've moved my hosting, so if you see anything weird, please let me know. If you've had trouble accessing the site in the past, or know someone who has (particularly people in countries like Brazil, Chile, Singapore, etc.) please give it another try and let me know what happens. Thanks for reading, and watch for more Toy Fair updates over the next couple days! Michael MWC

The Collector's Life / The Pegs / Walking Dead Hershel and Carol action figures review
on: February 15, 2015, 05:36:51 pm
Toy Fair is in full swing, and I'll be posting coverage from Chris M over the next few days. But in all our fascination with things to come, we can't forget things that are, like the new wave of McFarlane Walking Dead figures. I'm checking out the Hershel and Carol tonight, with the others soon to come. You can find the review here: http://www.mwctoys.com/REVIEW_021615a.htmor with the rest of the reviews here: http://www.mwctoys.comBTW, I've just switched hosting providers. That means there may be weird issues here and there with the site and with my mail, until all the kinks get worked out. If you see anything off, please let me know asap. Also, if you or someone you know had trouble accessing the site from a location, please try again. The new provider should have less trouble with blocking IP's. Thanks for reading! Michael MWC

The Collector's Life / The High End / Snake Plissken review
on: February 08, 2015, 06:31:20 pm
Sorry about missing out on last Thursday night's update - my hosting company is once again an issue. That won't be the case much longer, as I have a change planned, but be patient with me this week. Anyway, I do have the Snake Plissken review up tonight, and I'm not particularly thrilled. However, it's not for the same reasons as a lot of people - you can find my review here: http://www.mwctoys.com/REVIEW_020615a.htmor with the rest of the reviews at the usual: http://www.mwctoys.comThanks for reading! The Collector's Life / The Pegs / Re: Poppies 2014 results are in!

No probs - it's always fun. I'm shocked that Vader won, but it is very telling I think. Hot Toys lost in two of the categories they were nominated in, and they've never lost in one before. Even in categories where they won, the spread is much smaller, and there's a lot of new companies hot on their heels. Of course, with what they have planned for Star Wars and Marvel, they could have a huge year in 2015...but with their rising prices, I see a big opportunity for companies working in the under $200 range.

The Collector's Life / The Pegs / MWC/Captain Toy's picks for Best/Worst of 2014
on: January 27, 2015, 05:45:27 pm
No review tonight - instead, it's that time of year when awards get handed out. The Poppies and People's Pick voting has completed, and it's now time for me to get busy tallying. I expect to have the People's Picks results ready for Sunday night, with the Poppies finishing up on Tuesday. But first there's my picks, and my picks are not just for Best, but also Worst. It's a long read though, so sit back with a cup of tea, or a tasty beer, and settle in for my list: http://www.mwctoys.com/mwc_picks_2014.htmI'll have another review on Thursday night, before we get to the full results of the other two contests. Thanks for reading! Michael MWC
